I should also point out that sometimes people have a choice on eating out or not–on my most recent trip I stayed in hotels without kitchens. I still need to eat.
Finally, why do so many people respond to those who question tipping with a "you must have never worked as a Must we all have done everything to have a valid opinion about it?

YES…in Vegas "Nightclubs"….or at least the "mega clubs"…sitting down is a premium that is paid for! Sorry.
Solution(s)
Pay for bottle service, the right clubs on the right have a great time and spend about the same $. Figure you spent $20-30 per person "after 3 hours in line…(holy crap WHAT were you thinking?
) Then figure you probably spend another $20-$60 in drinks per person (2-5 drinks on average depending on the drink, etc) while also waiting for the server to serve you. Finally, figure that you would have probably been to pay least' $20 to have a place to sit and relax…right? Okay, then just paid the same or less at you would have for service'.
Now that you understand the financial SAVINGS associated with +/- time waiting in line the club, time waiting at a bar to get served…and then still paying cover charges…you can understand how service' sooo expensive anyway. Usually works out to be $80-$120 per person with a group of 4-5 people (male/female, regardless)….THEN factor in the VIP "looking Cool" aspects, the a place to invite a friend' to spend time with you at, etc…and it can be a down-right DEAL…LOL.
Okay…you DO commit to a minimum amount of spending upfront…BUT you wait in such a long line (and with people' lol…no line…bottle service also has a line to it.)…AND you have your and mixer w/ice" AT your table in a VIP reserved spot…so no waiting at a bar either! (figure each bottle at $500 or less, usually. People may quote you cheaper for some clubs and/or weaker nights for the club…but usually the cost is $350+/- then, plus taxes, then + mandatory gratuity (minum 20-25%).
The other alternatives…if you want to, or have the fund to, pay for bottle service in a Vegas clubs…would be bar lounges. Some of the casinos have "nightclub lounges" with little or no covers or costs to down'…but of course the rules of supply and demand tell you…they the hottest spots either (several companies in Vegas sell crawls' with these as they are restaurant/bars or bar/lounges, NOT the Mega clubs most people are looking for in Vegas. ALSO, you can check out some other cool Bar/Lounge spots with NO cover, No cost to sit down a drink minimum of 1 or 2 drinks at casino bar pricing)…my fav. spot for that idea would be Mandalay Bay…they have a bar/lounge spot open to the public at NO COST and typically has a live band playing…very close to their club' spots.
I resent the fact that you thimk the only thing a does is pop open a can/bottle! You say that you were in the food service biz, but obviosly you did not learn anything. The if they are doing their job, also insures that you have a good time in their establishment . This means dealing with all kinds of crazy people and making sure they do not annoy you. If you do not tip the because you feel like you do not have to, rest assured, that beer that they only have to pop a cap open for is going to take a very long time to get to you. (Btw, I have for many Japanese people and when they are in America, they tip and tip very well!)Also, the beer does not stock itself and the bar does not clean itself either!
As far as the cook situation goes, I have done that for a few years also. Yes, we work very hard in the kitchen, but we are paid a much higher wage. If there is a slow night, you can rest assured that the chef/cook is going to walk out with more money from their hourly wage than any of the tipped employees. Not only that, the will more than look after their cooks if they have been in the biz long enough. It is an unwritten rule that if you want your food to come out on time, make sure the cook is taken care of. As a cook, my and waitstaff always took care of me and as a I always take care of my cooks.
As far as saying if waiters/waitresses do not like the pay then go work somewhere else, then here is a solution for you. If you do not like the fact that you have to tip because you know the servers are not making a good hourly, then do not go there. Most of the servers that work in these establishments do so because the tips are great.It is not your fault that they make below minimum wage ,but if you are choosing to go there, that is your fault. There are plenty of places that pay thier staff well enough so that they do not have to depend on tips, so go to those places, please.
